let's try this again...

OUT LOUD (Online) is proud to present Season 8: Sinners + Saints, The Duality Between Good / Evil *VIRTUAL EDITION*, through - you guessed it! - entirely reimagined virtual content.

In response to the current global health crisis, OUT LOUD continues to postpone ALL FORMS of in-person programming indefinitely. The safety and well being of our ensemble, extended collaborators, audiences, and PVD community are of the utmost importance to us. We will not proceed with plans to initiate any form of in-person programming until it is definitively and sustainably safe for our collective to do so. In light of these circumstances, and the uncertainty surrounding when it will be possible to be back into the room together, OUT LOUD has turned our focus entirely to creating and collaborating virtually - establishing a new baseline to reimagine, rediscover, and reconnect with our unique methodology and ensemble driven work.

After months of processing and mindfully engaging with virtual pilot programs, we are endlessly grateful to officially launch our evolving virtual platform, OUT LOUD (Online). This launch currently takes the form of our ongoing Anti-Racist Plan of Action, our updated Response to COVID-19, and the release of Season 8: Sinners + Saints (The Duality Between Good / Evil) *VIRTUAL EDITION*, comprised of a 5-Episode Podcast Series "Tarzoom" and our first Virtual Experience, "Deadly Sins".

OUT LOUD thought Season 8 would be a very different experience back in September of 2019. Here is a look back at our initial concept designs and photography / videography collaborations with Piquant Photo and Jesse Dufault. Behind the scenes photos by Jesse Dufault. how it's going...

"Being able to continue to connect with this ensemble through the process that has been this pandemic has been enriching not only creatively but personally as well. Creatively, it’s been like being handed paddles on a stranded lifeboat. Personally, it’s been like the whole lifeboat altogether." - Season 8 Ensemble Member, Audrey Lavin Crawley

"Online rehearsals have been a fruitful endeavor for the brain meat in the OUT LOUD mind hive. It's been tough not being able to meet and rehearse in person but the sharing of experiences during these abnormal times has been a bonding experience. Experiencing life through a camera lens has been a struggle, but it has also paved the way for ideas and conversations we never would have had otherwise. This has been particularly interesting in combination with Deadly Sins, as we are now living the life we had hypothesized just weeks earlier. We also have stepped up our research game in this digital format, with everyone sharing multiple links to essays, articles, and media weekly. I am so thankful that I've had this community during the last couple of months to keep me sane and, more importantly, artistically stimulated." - Season 8 Ensemble Member, Josh Raymo

"This pandemic has definitely taught all of us a little bit more about ourselves. How we can handle stress on a global scale, and how we handle many of our life services to be reduced, limited, or closed off indefinitely. In a time where such things are difficult to obtain and day-to-day routine has been simplified to incredibly sedentary means, OUT LOUD (Online) has been an invaluable resource for me. Like toilet paper, artistic fulfillment is one of those things you don't expect to need the most when you're going into a pandemic like this. Having a weekly check in with trusted friends you can just sit back and make some no-pressure art with taps into a part of your brain that might atrophy if you let it stagnate for too long. Kira and the crew have been invaluable in helping me keep my head above water in that regard." - Season 8 Ensemble Member, Derek Smith

"When we first started the online sessions I felt totally overwhelmed by what was happening to the world. It was as if the plug had been ripped out of everyone's lives. I was fearful that I wasn't going to be able to engage with anything creative, maybe ever again. It was a challenge to turn my anxiety brain off to try and show up for the people and the community that I love to make some art about it or despite it. I'm grateful that I was given the space to work through my angsty feelings and claw my way to the other side because man, I'm really proud of what we've been building." - Season 8 and Core Ensemble Member, Natasha Cole

"Social distancing is uniquely challenging for our ensemble because we build theatre through movement and thrive with connection. OUT LOUD (Online) makes it possible for us to continue to work collaboratively. We are finding new ways to breathe and move together, to share ideas and find inspiration, and to support each other as artists and as humans. Of course, we always do this - but it feels especially vital now." - Season 8 and Core Ensemble Member, Beth Alianiello

Virtual Edition
5-Episode Podcast Series "Tarzoom"

Featuring the creative team behind OUT LOUD's Tartuffe

OUT LOUD's Season 8 production of Tartuffe was originally set to open in April of this year as a main-stage, in-person production. Weeks away from Opening Night, OUT LOUD made the call to reschedule all in-person programming in response to the initial shutdowns in March. Soon after, the far reaching consequences of COVID-19 became clear, prompting OUT LOUD to make the definitive decision to postpone all in-person programming indefinitely, transitioning to entirely virtual platforms for Season 8 in 2020, as well as for the foreseeable future.

Journey behind the scenes as the Tartuffe ensemble engages with OUT LOUD’s unique Devising Process and Ensemble Methodology, Collective Breath - highlighting Duality, Radical Collaboration, Collaborative Set and Costume Designing, and the in-depth process of engaging with this project as they transitioned online.

“This podcast is a glimpse into our virtual rehearsal space, how our devising process has evolved and adapted, and how we have nurtured each other creatively during a pandemic.” - Beth Alianiello

“Adapting to a situation like what we've been faced with, and having that adaptation be productive and meaningful is an incredible feat. I think recording discussions about what we've been able to do over the past couple of months is a great hole-in-the-wall peek into how we devise and collaborate in our processes, albeit in a virtual format.” - Derek Smith

“This podcast is a path for us to honor what we've built during this project; it's also provided a space to reflect upon what we've learned along the way, particularly in shifting our process from a physical space to a digital space. From an outside perspective, it gives listeners an inside look at our devising process and methodology.” - Natasha Cole

“It’s been an exciting opportunity to simultaneously experience my first OUT LOUD work as an ensemble member, and then the experience of contributing to this podcast in which we get to share the experience of working on an OUT LOUD show. Audiences who have been as captivated as I have by OUT LOUD’s work should take this unique opportunity to tune in and experience a peak “behind the curtain”! It has been exhilarating.” - Audrey Crawley

Join the Tartuffe ensemble as they reflect on their experiences with this project, Season 8, and OUT LOUD as a collective, unpacking our collaborative past - present - and the potential  for our future.

Virtual Edition
OUT LOUD's first Virtual Experience

The OUT LOUD ensemble have embarked on a year long journey into the depths of Technology and the concept of Sin; tracking and interpreting the evolution of how the “7 Deadly Sins” have been internalized and integrated into our deeply personal relationships to modern technology and social media. Exploring expansive themes from Big Pharma to Social Media Influencers, to unique dualities such as Private vs Public and Cure vs Disease, what has emerged is a series of interconnected virtual experiences curated by Kira Hawkridge, Marc Tiberiis II, Josh Raymo, Derek Smith, Natasha Cole, Siobhan LaPorte-Cauley, Marc (Papa) Tiberiis, Beth Alianiello, and Emma Impagliazzo through OUT LOUD’s first virtual experience: Deadly Sins.

"This project never squarely lands in condemning the "bad" or reveling in the "good" of virtual technology and social media in particular, but exploring the spaces in between. The ebbs, flows, and seemingly imperceptible nuances - asking that we take time and make space for the dualities in each of us - acknowledging and examining how we communicate, interact, and expel/absorb information through the endless virtual platforms at our fingertips." - Kira Hawkridge

"Deadly Sins began with discussions of the Original Sins. Those discussions quickly morphed into present day integrations of sin. Technology was identified early on as the modern grand transport of sin. Since technology reaches almost every facet of human interaction, sin had its playground. Each of us went running and screaming out into that playground to help each other explore. The gallery of experience we will now present, represents months of work and seven different interpretations. While although different, there is common sin knowledge learned and demonstrated within each person’s vision. A visitor may be leaving with some truth they did not know they had upon arrival. Only they will know if that is of benefit or distressing." - (Papa) Marc Tiberiis

"The creative process for Deadly Sins has been in a way like life.  As you go through life you meet people, make connections and sometimes those connections last sometimes they fade.  But, then you win the lottery and all of a sudden all those people start coming out of the woodwork.  This is what Deadly Sins was like.  It was such a long process, a little over 11 months, and all of a sudden in September something that someone said, or scribbled down in March would bubble to the surface and totally change the direction we were going in.  It was just that kind of process, we were there for the journey because we sure as hell didn’t have a destination which, ultimately, made for something really special." - Josh Raymo

In the spirit of Duality, OUT LOUD has crafted the ability to choose the way you initially engage with this virtual experience. You may begin by getting to know our ensemble and the Deadly Sins Artists/Curators through our Deconstructed Model, seeing behind the scenes and gaining insights into the the artistic processes that unfolded. You will have a direct line to each element of this experience, accessing all of its content with ease. On the other hand, you may begin by jumping down the rabbit hole and fully interacting and interpreting the Host Site deadlysins.me and/or our Instagram Page @deadlysinsinc with fresh eyes. You’ll always have the option to return to our Deconstructed Model and dig into all the whys and how’s, engaging with any content you may have missed your first few times through. Either way, we encourage you to unlock all that Deadly Sins has to offer and to keep coming back for more. It’s 100% designed to experience again and again and again. Once you’ve completed your first round, there is still so much to dig into. The choices you make will result in wildly different outcomes, leading to secret elements and unique discoveries. What is your level of curiosity? How far will you go? And what will you unearth along the way?
